Fair Director’s Pick for the Week of December 3
Derek David Baron
Derek David Baron is an American artist, based in North Texas, whose paintings explore memories from his childhood, everyday objects, and passing emotions. As Derek says, he “[loves] the challenge of physically translating a feeling onto a canvas.” Though seemingly simple in composition, the sparseness of Derek’s works belies a complexity hidden in layers of paint, as if, like fossils, most lie hidden from view while a few may be discovered poking through a thin layer to be discovered at last.

As Nicole forms her recommendations, she is considering key aspects of an artist’s work that demand special recognition—whether it be a fully articulated style that is unique and arresting, a mastery of technical skill that reveals an uncommon talent, or a strong underpinning of ideas that is fresh and provocative. It is our hope this this series will help you discover an artist whose works you really love.
