New Zealand-born Fiona Maclean has a BFA in Fine Art from the Elam Art School, Auckland, and continued her studies at the Parsons School of Art & Design in New York. In 2010 she was part of a summer residency at SVA (School of Visual Arts), New York. Her haunting portraits, made using acrylics, gouache or oil paint, explore her fascination with the fleetingness of youth, the elusiveness of beauty and sexuality. Her works are both glamorous and ethereal, as if, as one critic put it, she is “extracting and translating fragments of secrets of the soul”. Her paintings have been acquired by many private collectors and you can also see her fashion illustrations in several international publications.
