‘Good morning! My name is Catherine Hiller and I will be taking over TOAF’s Instagram today, all day! I am a French Abstract Expressionist artist originally from Paris and now based in Melbourne. I will be sharing some of my works and practice throughout the day.’

My works are raw and visceral, the product of instinct rather than intellect. I am very sensitive to my surroundings – colours, sounds, people and most of all music.’

One of the things I paint most about is love – because…What else?!’

‘I participated in The Other Art Fair in Sydney last October – what a fantastic experience, meeting lots of amazing artists and an incredible amount of new collectors – can’t wait to do it all over again in Melbourne in May!’

Every cue, whether visual, aural or emotional, has a colour to me and I try translating it all onto canvas without the distraction of a thought process.’

It used to be old stables and has amazing natural light – it is also near the beach which is rather enjoyable after a day’s hard work!’

All my works are oil on linen. I have been working with oils for over 30 years and I just love the richness of the paint, its blending capacity and how it just glides on the linen.’
