How to Shop Art for Outdoor Spaces

Art isn’t just for the gallery walls, and there are a variety of sculptures and installations ideal for creating aesthetic moments in your outdoor spaces. Often overlooked, outdoor walls can be made complete with wall-mounted sculptures, such as the radial, nature-inspired designs by Ian Turnock and modern, reflective roundels by Anna Sidi-Yacoub. When it comes to freestanding outdoor sculptures, consider the surrounding nature and landscaping integral parts of the composition. Sculpture can either cohere harmoniously with the natural elements of your outdoor space or provide pops of contrast. To create moments of contrast, opt for works with bright colors, glossy finishes, and geometric forms, such as LEAP by Jennifer Asher. For subdued, harmonious additions to your landscape, consider organic forms and rough-hewn materials, such as bronze, as seen in the figurative sculptures by Matt Hill and Heidi Hadaway.
While the payoff is big, installing an outdoor sculpture takes time and effort. Take into consideration whether your sculpture can be displayed on soft or hard ground, and if any special hardware is included to secure it. If a sculpture is not labeled for outdoor display, confirm that the materials are durable against inclement weather.
If special shipping and installation teams are needed for your sculpture, our support teams will coordinate with them to ensure your work is shipped and installed safely. Many outdoor sculptors also make their work in series, or on demand. If you see a work that is sold, contact our curators to see if another version might be available.
