Inside the Studio
Stephen Rowe
What are the major themes you pursue in your work?
I have several series that I have been exploring. The themes include: love, searching for happiness, veils and masks that shields one’s emotions, movement and color, and dynamic compositions that engage and inspire.
What was the best advice given to you as an artist?
Be yourself. The advice was given to me by my dear Nanna.
Prefer to work with music or in silence?
I prefer to listen to music, especially jazz, classical, rock, alt country, and a lot of NPR.
If you could only have one piece of art in your life, what would it be?
I am challenged to answer that question, as I am inspired by so many artists.
Who are your favorite writers?
I am not the biggest reader, however I do like Charles Bukowski, and songwriters such as Kris Kristofferson, Willie Nelson, and Leonard Cohen, as I am a singer/songwriter and can relate.
