Inside the Studio

Juliana Do

What are the major themes you pursue in your work?

The main focus of my art is the human body. My artistic approach to the human body is to perceive it as the basis of human understanding and the origin of all aspects of life. My method of illustration projects the soul and the aesthetics of the human body and allows us to reflect on our own humanity. The second theme in my art is abstraction. Abstract and concrete are two sides of the same coin. Those who understands the form also comprehend the “UN” form.

What was the best advice given to you as an artist?

No matter how long an artwork takes, when it is finished, it should look like it was made in one breath, in “prima vista.”

Prefer to work with music or in silence?

I prefer to work with different kinds of music and audio books. Sometimes I work in silence too, especially when it´s raining.

If you could only have one piece of art in your life, what would it be?

Probably one which is beyond my skills, or one I simply fall in love with.

Who are your favorite writers?

Terry Pratchett, Luis Sepúlveda, Franz Kafka, the Dalai Lama, and Mahatma Gandhi.
