Fresh Faces: New Portraits by L.A. Artists Presented by Saatchi Art

FRESH FACES is a new exhibition of portraiture on view at Saatchi Art beginning March 24th. Curated by Katherine Henning, Associate Curator, and Jessica McQueen, Assistant Curator, the exhibition continues Saatchi Art’s series of shows around the world.

Fresh Faces is an exhibition featuring 15 emerging artists who explore the traditional genre of portraiture with a unique and fresh approach. Historically, portraiture aims to capture the essence of a subject’s character and likeness. The artists in this exhibition work in a variety of mediums and styles – ranging from realism to pop, and photography to painting.  In certain cases, the subjects’ features are obscured and abstracted beyond recognition, whereas in others the focus is on beauty itself. The emphasis of each portrait is not so much on capturing an exact likeness of the subject, but rather an exploration of color, form, and the medium’s limitations. Through these different methods, the artists seek to deconstruct the traditional genre, as well as the individual formation of identity. – Curator’s Statement

The exhibition highlights the work of 14 emerging artists from Los Angeles represented by Saatchi Art: Kevin Bradley, Gregg Chadwick, Karen Clark, Fabio Coruzzi, Steven Engelmann, Maria Folger, Minas Halaj, Mark Hobley, Tahnee Lonsdale, Mallory Morrison, Christopher Mudgett, Brian Oldham, Stephanie Vovas and Adrian Kay Wong.
