Saatchi Art’s Guide to Modernism Week 2016: 5 Events for Art Lovers
Pack your most stylish bag and find your favorite shades. Mid-February means it’s time to celebrate and appreciate everything there is to love about midcentury architecture and design at Palm Springs Modernism Week. The festival runs from February 11 – 21, (for more than a week!) and includes 250+ events. Many events are quite popular, so buying tickets in advance is a good idea.
Here are 5 that we thought looked especially appealing for modern art and design lovers. Enjoy your time in the sun!
1) 16th Annual Modernism Show Preview Reception
A few of the elegant midcentury goods and fine art for sale at last year’s Modernism Show in Palm Springs.
The Modernism Show is the place to be for 20th century collectors looking for smart artwork, midcentury modern furniture and décor… If you live to shop, why not join the Preview Reception on Friday the 12th and get a jump on things? Early birds get a first look at the sale, and free daily return admission to shop through the weekend, plus proceeds help fund Modernism Week’s grant programs. 2) Cocktail Party with Shag! Palm Springs Polynesia
Calling all SHAG fans! Get ready to party poolside. Josh Agle (the artist otherwise known as Shag) is hosting a Tiki-themed cocktail party at the Caliente Tropics Hotel, complete with live music, DJ and festive tropical drinks. In addition to all this fun, Shag will be sharing a special selection of “Tikiprints,” and guests will receive a takeaway gift. Friday the 12th, 8 – 11 PM. 3) The 2016 Modernism Week Show House at the Christopher Kennedy Compound

If you live and breathe for modern home décor, put this Home Tour inside one of Palm Spring’s most amazing midcentury homes on the top of your to-do list. 4) Charles Phoenix: Super Space Age Slide Show
If you’ve never been to Palm Springs Art Museum and you love quirky retro images and photography, here’s your opportunity… Comedian and Americana enthusiast Charles Phoenix presents his take on midcentury futurism complete with vintage visuals. 5) Do Just One Modern Thing with Danny Seo
If you love tranquil minimal art and interiors, head back to CAMP on Sunday to hear Danny Seo — designer/author and Editor-in-Chief of Naturally Danny Seo — speak about the joys of simplicity in design and in living. This free event will offer some easy ideas on how to use the principles of modern design to simplify your lifestyle and bring more happiness into your everyday, and there will be time for a few questions, too.
