Fabio Coruzzi paints to create poems reminiscent of his travels

What are the major themes you pursue in your work?

I think the major theme that I pursue in my artwork is the human habitat, our everyday environment. I believe that ordinary life, if looked under particular perspectives, becomes absolutely extraordinary. The urban environment is prevalent in my paintings because that’s my gymnasium, my playground, my jungle. I belong to the city and the city belongs to me, always. Painting it feels like home.

What was the best advice given to you as an artist?

The best advice was given by my tutor back in University: he told me that I couldn’t be anything else but an artist, a painter. He also advised me to go to live in USA but never told me why.

Prefer to work with music or in silence?

I prefer to work with music: 12 hours of music for 12 hours of working every day. From Chet Baker to Bob Marley, there is enough inspiring music to learn from.

If you could only have one piece of art in your life, what would it be?

This is very hard to say. Choosing one artwork is too hard…but maybe, I would go for Guernica by Pablo Picasso.
