Director, Kiran Nader Museum of Art

Roobina Karode is the Director of the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art in New Delhi, a non-profit organization for exhibiting modern and contemporary art from India and the subcontinent. An art historian, curator, and critic, Karode has curated many thematic and monographic exhibitions and worked as project editor and author on various significant catalogues and books published by the Delhi Art Gallery.

Roobina was the co-curator of the first Asian Art Triennial in Fukuoka, Japan in 1999, showcasing trends in Contemporary Asian Art. In 2007, she co-curated a travelling exhibition “Tiger by the Tail: Contemporary Women Artists of India Transforming Culture” at the Women’s Research Study Centre at Brandeis University, Boston, US.

As a critic she has written extensively on modern and contemporary Indian art. She has taught Art History & Aesthetics at various institutions in Delhi, including Jamia Millia Islamia, College of Art, National Museum Institute, School of Art & Aesthetics, JNU. She was awarded a Fulbright Fellowship in 2000.

Her curated exhibitions include “Negotiating Matters,” “Excavations and Evocations” on Himmat Shah’s terracotta sculptures, “Living on the Edge: Works of Three Contemporary Artists,” “The Naked Line,” showcasing drawings by modern Indian masters at PAI in Paris. The most recent exhibition at KNMA entitled “Crossings: Time Unfolded-II,” curated by Karode, brings together the historic and the contemporary, creating room for imaginary conversations through multifarious crossings and radical juxtaposition of Indian art from 1940-2011.
