How did you get started making art?

I was nine years old when I entered art school. I can certainly say that after beginning, I couldn’t imagine myself without a pencil and an album for sketches. I realised that it was what I wanted to do for my whole life. Finally I got an BA and MA degree of fine art at Tbilisi State Academy of Art, in my native country Georgia.

What does making art mean to you?

The canvas is an escape road or connection to the world of my imagination. I see the canvas like a door. So, I create inter-dimensional portals in my painting, in that I use the image of the animals as a symbolic entrance between cultures, nations, and identities. My animals are a reflection of a past life in the present. They are also the doors that guide me to an unknown, dark world. It is a mystical underground which is neither romantic nor attractive. I’m portraying that the hardships and storms of life are the background to a new world of escape or freedom.

What is it like to be a part of The Other Art Fair?

The Other Art Fair was my second experience as a fair for independent artists, I fell in love if I can say that with The Other Art Fair. Everything was perfect, and I’m very glad to be chosen and cannot wait to hopefully return next October!
