The Others

Meet The Others: Evan Sklar

The Game Changers. The Rule Breakers. The Innovators. Discover some of the fantastic emerging talent showcasing their work at The Other Art Fair.

This week we meet Evan Sklar who participated in the inaugural edition of The Other Art Fair Brooklyn in June 2017.

How would you describe your artwork?

I make colorful representational drawings, mostly landscapes, that consider my immediate surroundings.  I am particularly interested in exploring the intersection of nature and man made space and the translation of light and color. My drawings are made on an Apple iPad. I am interested in seeing what the world around me looks like drawn and described in my voice.

What does making art mean to you?

Making art is a way to exit the actual world I inhabit and disappear into the experience of making art.

How did you get started making art?

I was raised in a home that appreciated and made art.  I was always encouraged to make art and always did.

What is it like to be a part of The Other Art Fair?

Making art is a solitary venture.  The opportunity to participate in the The Other Art Fair and to show your work and spend a few days surrounded by other artists and lovers of art is a rewarding and fulfilling experience.  It was great fun!

What is your favourite piece for sale on your Saatchi Art profile and why?

“Dog On Beach.” Right now I am interested in exploring the making of representational drawings that are both abstract and realistic.  I want to explore how I can make a drawing that is immediately recognized as the real world but described in a way that is more fantastic and non literal.
