London: Sky Academy Arts Scholar Gearoid O’Dea at The Other Art Fair
2017 Sky Academy Arts Scholarship winner Gearoid O’Dea will be presenting a large-scale site specific sculpture at The Other Art Fair.
Based in Dublin, Ireland, his practice combines mark making and explorations of cognitive function and anxiety. Employing painting, sculpture and drawing his works range from two-dimensional, wall mounted pieces to indoor and outdoor installations.
Working with primary documentation and drawing on theoretical frameworks, his recent series centers on the realization that becoming hyper-aware of life around you can counter-balance the dislocation and disembodiment of an anxiety disorder.
“When I focus on my immediate surroundings in a moment of panic I become more present in that moment, and therefore able calm my anxiety. The concept of the work that will be shown in London is a system I created to document periods of time and sort them into ‘rounds’.”
