Three Trends from The Armory Show 2025
The 2025 Armory Show returned to New York for its 30th annual art gathering.
The Armory Show is known for setting the pace for the fall art season, showcasing what collectors and curators will be talking about. While browsing the booth previews, I spotted a few recurring trends. Here’s a snapshot of the top three directions we are sure to see more of heading into fall’s art season:
Landscapes Reimagined

One of the most exciting directions was the reimagining of landscapes. Artists transformed familiar vistas into dream-like, conceptual compositions. These works remind us that landscapes are never static—they’re alive with memory and imagination. You can see this spirit echoed in the work of British artist Karina Eibatova, whose paintings blur the line between outer worlds and inner states.
Hyperreal Illusions
Another striking theme was the return of trompe l’œil painting. A number of artists cleverly used illusionism to delight, inviting viewers to question what’s real and what’s not. Our own Kalsoom Iftikhar, Pakistani artist, captures this brilliantly in her hyper-realistic renderings of draped fabric.
Material Exploration
Finally, I was captivated by the use of textiles as paint, where threads and fibers are layered to mimic brushstrokes. This tactile approach adds depth and dimension to abstraction, and Raul de la Torre’s intricate embroidered paintings are a perfect example of this innovation.
