Andrei Varga

There has recently been a great surge in interest in contemporary painting coming out of Eastern Europe, particularly from Romania. We are thrilled to introduce Andrei Varga who has an MA from the University of Art and Design in Cluj- Napoca, Romania. He has been exhibiting his work since 2006, most recently in a group show at the Irish Museum of Contemporary Art in Dublin. ‘Unsaved Memory’ is a series of abstract portraits which he says are about “about time and the way it leaves prints in our memory and also about the way that human memory plays with time.” Andrei’s love of Francis Bacon led him to live in Dublin for a while and he’s just moved to San Francisco, the next stop on his artistic pilgrimage.
