ForYourArt Route: Rebecca Wilson’s Guide to Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA

We’ve partnered with ForYourArt, Los Angeles’ venerable go-to on all things happening on the art scene, to bring you an exclusive guide to Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA. If you haven’t yet heard of the PST initiative, its a blockbuster smorgasbord of exhibitions celebrating the art of Southern California, with dozens of southland galleries and museums offering exhibitions around this edition’s theme of “Los Angeles/Latin America.” PST ends soon, so don’t miss your chance to take in some of the region’s best.

Below our Chief Curator Rebecca Wilson shares her ROUTE, a day’s itinerary for taking in Pacific Standard Time LA/LA.

ROUTE

by Rebecca Wilson, Chief Curator and VP, Art Advisory, Saatchi Art

I will be making a trip to Pasadena (coming from London that’s like saying you’re going to Cardiff for the day) to see Below the Underground: Renegade Art and Action in 1990s Mexico

After learning about the underground art scene and political actions created by alternative art practices, I will stop off at Vroman’s Bookstore, where in addition to a great selection of books you can get a really good cappuccino.

Next, I’ll head to the Huntington where their desert garden has an astonishing 2,000 species of succulents and other desert plants, and is one of my favorite places in LA. While there I will continue my day-long journey by exploring Visual Voyages: Images of Latin American Nature from Columbus to Darwin, which promises to be a rare chance to see just 100 objects which will shed light on the connections between art, science, and nature in Latin America.
