Cesar Garcia, Curator and Writer
Cesar Garcia is the Founding Director and Chief Curator of The Mistake Room–Los Angeles’s only independent non-profit cultural institution devoted to an international program of contemporary art. A curator, writer and educator, Garcia formerly served as the Associate Director and Senior Curator of LAXART (2007-2012).
In 2008 Garcia served on the curatorial team of the 2008 California Biennial and in 2012 he was one of the curators of Made in L.A. 2012–the first Los Angeles Biennial organized by the Hammer Museum and LAXART. Since January 2012 Garcia serves as the United States Commissioner for the 13th International Cairo Biennial in Egypt.
Garcia received a BA in Political Science and Chicana/o Studies from UCLA, a Master’s in Public Art studies from USC, and is currently a Eugene V. Cota-Robles Doctoral Fellow at UCLA’s Department of World Arts & Cultures/Dance where he specializes in History and Theory of Museological, Exhibitionary, and Curatorial Practices.
