How to Start Buying and Investing in Art: Part 7

There are no guarantees when it comes to purchasing art–you should always feel happy with what you’re buying, as it may be on your walls for a pleasurably long time. But if you are interested in the investment side of collecting art, considering works by emerging artists from around the world is a good place to start.

Doing a bit of extra research also goes a long way. Works by many emerging artists on Saatchi Art have the potential to increase in reputation and value, and they are more easily accessible and affordable than those by big-name artists.

Saatchi Art artist Daniel Coves, for example, was selected for the 2013 BP Portrait Award, the most prestigious prize for portraiture. His work has also been exhibited at the National Portrait Gallery in London.

Nina Fowler’s large-scale works, which are inspired by film, are already increasing in value. This is well-earned, considering she has a First Class fine art degree and was shortlisted for The Young Masters Prize and the Jerwood Drawing Prize. Collectors of her works include the likes of Jude Law, Sharleen Spiteri, and Caroline Issa.

Hormazd Narielwalla is another Saatchi Art rising star. His collages, which are made using bespoke Savile Row tailoring patterns, explore the body in abstract form. He has won several awards and prizes, including the International Rector’s Scholarship from the University of Arts London at London College of Fashion and Saatchi Art’s Showdown Prize.

Robert von Bangert makes stunning mid-century abstract paintings, focusing on primary colors and precise lines. He studied fine art at the School of Visual Arts in New York City and was a finalist in Saatchi Art’s Showdown Prize in Spring 2014. Robert’s prices are steadily increasing, and his paintings have sold within minutes of being listed for sale on Saatchi Art.

Investing in art is an intriguing endeavor– it’s exciting to think you could be buying a work by a future art star before they start to fully shine.
