Jesús Perea
Jesús Perea is an emerging artist currently living and working in Madrid, Spain. He earned a BFA from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. After painting for over a decade, he began creating digital geometric abstract works that explore form, architecture, and simplicity. Though he begins with tangible materials like paper and paint, his artistic process relies heavily on digital techniques to manipulate the paper’s texture and hues, as well as his experience as a graphic designer and illustrator. Jesus is featured in Saatchi Art’s Spring 2016 Catalog. Check out his work, “Abstract Composition 642,” featured on page 20.
Jesús has had two solo exhibitions, one at Galería Espacio Zambucho and one in Centro Cultural Juan Carlos I in Madrid. His works have also been featured in various publications, including Booooooom and Design Milk.
What are the major themes you pursue in your work?
I am interested in form, composition, architecture, space, and silence. I also love when the unexpected comes into my work, be it what happens during the process or how a composition becomes an emotion.
What was the best advice given to you as an artist?
Keep on working honestly, and don’t stop learning.
Prefer to work with music or in silence?
Always with music, I am very influenced by it. Listening to good music makes feel more free and creative with my own work.
If you could only have one piece of art in your life, what would it be?
Maybe one of Josef Albers’ pieces.
Who are your favorite writers?
Thomas Mann, Julio Cortazar, Mario Benedetti, and Joseph Conrad.
